EVENT THREE : Hammer Museum

Just the other day my teammates and I visited the Hammer Museum in Westwood. I was not sure what to expect from this museum, but I learned a lot of interesting things. I have never been someone who likes art or exhibits that show off art, but for this I decided to step out of my comfort zone.

The exhibit at the Hammer that I found the most interesting was the collaborative works of art by Oliver Payne and Keiichi Tanaami. Their art is consisted of a world that is built around Japansese idols, monsters, and popular Japanese arcade games. Payne focused more on the video game culture while Tanaami focused more on the idea of an international pop movement. These pictures are beautifully drawn skulls in black and white that often feature some type of video game signal. The way that these two artist bring together the old and the new ages are astonishing.

Another very interesting exhibit that I visited was Living Apart Together where it focuses on Los Angeles in the last decade. This exhibit tries to show the idea that Los Angeles has developed relationships on a global level due to the advancements in media and contemporary art. This exhibit featured artwork like receipts from different historic restaurants in Los Angeles specifically of the Spanish heritage. Even a replica in n out style cup was out on display.

Overall my trip to the Hammer Museum was defiantly one I would recommend to someone else because of all of the history that is in that Museum.
