Event 2



EVENT TWO

For the second event that we had to attend I decided to attend Eli Joteva's presentation. At first I was a little nervous going to the gallery because I was attending by myself and second off I was not sure what to expect at all. When I got to the entrance I saw some of my teammates standing outside waiting to go in, so I joined them. When I entered the building I was taken back at how the inside was set up and how the layout made it seem like such a real museum. As I walked around I noticed the theme of the slowly melting spheres that were melting slowly. Each sphere contained different elements and they all had a different melting speed, and were only affected by the room temperature. The main point I took away though from this event is what happened when the area became more populated. Once more people came into the room the heat was turned up a notch and the spheres slowly but surely started to melt a little bit faster. I believe that this events idea was to show us what humans are doing to the world around us. This also takes me back to the first event I attended. At the first event I attended the woman in charge had us appreciate what the world has to offer us, instead of always relying on man made objects. Now after attending a second event that showed me what humans are really doing to the world, I am starting to realize and appreciate a theme of these events. That theme is that we have to start appreciating what mother nature is giving to us before it is to late. I would highly recommend a classmate to attend this because it really opened my eyes to what we are doing to our world, and how we should appreciate what it offers us.

Week 9: Space & Art Space is such an intriguing topic because there is so much out there in the galaxy that we know about, and other things that have not even been discovered yet. But, there is still so much that we can learn from space. In todays world movies are such a hit entertainment and is a form of art that everyone enjoys. The movie interstellar combines both space and art into one. This movie is about a man from NASA who wants to move all the people on Earth to a new home in space through a wormhole. What I found very interesting in this weeks lecture was the "Power of Ten" video. It is amazing how every ten seconds we are pushed further and further away from Earth until eventually the Earth is only a speck of light. But, then as the video zooms in back to earth we are able to see all of the atoms that are in cells and our body. Week Four In this weeks lectures Vesna showed us that art, technology, and medicine have always cooperated together. Although we don't always see these three go together, they really do. We first see how different advancements in the technology field have stemmed from art, like MRI's and X-rays. These inventions have helped save millions of lives over the years. The MRI is an example of how all three of these link together. When you get an MRI usually your whole body goes underneath a machine that scans your body, and then displays a picture of every bone and ligament that you have. The picture that we get from the MRI displays the art portion, the machine is the technology portion, and the ability to figure out what is wrong with your body from the picture is the medicine portion. Event 1

EVENT ONE When I signed up for this workshop I didn't know what to expect. Although, after attending I am very glad that I attended it. After searching for the building for at least 30 minutes me and a couple of friends also in the class finally found the event. When we walked through the door we were greeted by the instructor who sat us down in the hallway and we began talking about the society we live in. As we began to chat she informed us about the culture we live in today and how we are so dependent on man made products that we do not get to experience the true beauty that the world gives us. I began to realize that this was so true when I thought of what I rely on in my everyday life. I couldn't exactly name more than one thing that is not man made that I use on a daily basis.
