Robotics + Art


Art is two things to me, creativity and innovation. Art can be such beautiful pieces of work because it allows the human mind to freely create whatever comes to it's imagination. This is the one reason why art has always stuck out as something that impacts the world on such a powerful level. Art gives people the ability to create whatever image they choose to. Although now artists are pushing to boundaries as to what is still considered art due to technology. Art though also connects with technology and allows people to create things that have never been created before. Artists now help create different technological advancements, they help create goods like drones or smartphones. So, even though art has given people the freedom to use their mind in the past without technology, in todays age artists use art to innovate. Some people might say that new technology is ruining the way that art was meant to be made and seen, but I see it the other way. I see technology benefiting from art and art benefiting from technology in a numerous amount of ways. There is still old art even though new art is beginning to innovate. The BBC News group says it best in an article, "today, these two seemingly distinct disciplines are interlinked more than ever, with technology being a fundamental force in the development and evolution of art." (Gever) As technology continues to advance moving forward, art will be there improving right along with it.

    I agree! Art can be so expressive and it uses both past trends and innovative ideas to enhance artistic value and interpretation. Honestly, robotics in art changes the dynamic of art so much by expanding different mediums of exposure.

Week 9: Space & Art Space is such an intriguing topic because there is so much out there in the galaxy that we know about, and other things that have not even been discovered yet. But, there is still so much that we can learn from space. In todays world movies are such a hit entertainment and is a form of art that everyone enjoys. The movie interstellar combines both space and art into one. This movie is about a man from NASA who wants to move all the people on Earth to a new home in space through a wormhole. What I found very interesting in this weeks lecture was the "Power of Ten" video. It is amazing how every ten seconds we are pushed further and further away from Earth until eventually the Earth is only a speck of light. But, then as the video zooms in back to earth we are able to see all of the atoms that are in cells and our body. Week Four In this weeks lectures Vesna showed us that art, technology, and medicine have always cooperated together. Although we don't always see these three go together, they really do. We first see how different advancements in the technology field have stemmed from art, like MRI's and X-rays. These inventions have helped save millions of lives over the years. The MRI is an example of how all three of these link together. When you get an MRI usually your whole body goes underneath a machine that scans your body, and then displays a picture of every bone and ligament that you have. The picture that we get from the MRI displays the art portion, the machine is the technology portion, and the ability to figure out what is wrong with your body from the picture is the medicine portion. Event 1

EVENT ONE When I signed up for this workshop I didn't know what to expect. Although, after attending I am very glad that I attended it. After searching for the building for at least 30 minutes me and a couple of friends also in the class finally found the event. When we walked through the door we were greeted by the instructor who sat us down in the hallway and we began talking about the society we live in. As we began to chat she informed us about the culture we live in today and how we are so dependent on man made products that we do not get to experience the true beauty that the world gives us. I began to realize that this was so true when I thought of what I rely on in my everyday life. I couldn't exactly name more than one thing that is not man made that I use on a daily basis.
